Today in History: June 4th – The First Hot Air Balloon Flight
On June 4th, 1783, the Montgolfier brothers made the first public flight of a hot air balloon in France.
They used fire to heat the air inside a big balloon made of paper and fabric.
The balloon went up into the sky and amazed the people.
It flew for about ten minutes.
This event was the beginning of human flight and an exciting step in history.
Later, people started to fly in balloons, planes, and even rockets!
